As born-again Christians, both Peach and I cherish our time spent in the Bible. I can’t speak for Peach, but I’ve been a Christian for the past 20+ years.

However, I didn’t start to truly study the Bible until about 11 years ago. In my humble opinion, knowing and understanding the Bible changes lives.

For me, I felt like I couldn’t have an honest relationship with God until I really knew who He was. I turned to the Bible for that information and haven’t looked back.

I now have a relationship with God based on who the Bible says He is instead of on my own assumptions. What a difference!

However, I know Bibles can be expensive. Thankfully, there are ways you can have access to a the Bible via a free bible download, a free bible app, through the the mail, or even some other unique ways you may not have thought about.

If you want a free Bible you have multiple options. Here are some resources for you that will ensure you never have to pay to read God’s Word.

How to Get a Free Bible by Mail

There are places that will send you a free Bible in the mail. Here is some information on the ones we found.

8. FreeBibles.net

FreeBibles.net is a non-profit organization that has sent out over 30,000 Bibles free of charge. They’ll send a free Bible to someone who requests one, provided that person is:

  • Sick or living in a nursing home
  • Incarcerated in a local prison
  • Homeless

You might be wondering how a homeless person can be sent a Bible. Well, the requirement for the homeless person to receive a Bible is that they live in a shelter part-time.

That way you have an address where the Bible can be sent to you if you’re homeless. Note that there is a limit of one free Bible that can be sent to each person.

Also, you can’t request a certain version (such as NIV or NKJ) to be sent. Since most of the Bibles these guys mail out are donated, the versions sent out will vary.

Don’t qualify for a free Bible under the FreeBibles.net standard? Don’t worry: they have a link to a website that will help you get an inexpensive Bible.

Prices on the site they link to start at under $5 per Bible. When I was searching the site, I found Bibles for sale as low as $2.79.

Many churches will happily give you a free Bible just for the asking. Ask at the church you attend. If you don’t currently attend church, call or stop by a church near you.

14. Your Hotel Room

If you’ve ever snooped through the drawers in the nightstand at a hotel, you may have found a Bible. The Gideon’s Bible has been making an appearance in hotel room drawers since 1908.

According to this article, a Christian businessmen’s group started putting the Bibles in hotel rooms to encourage it’s many traveling members.

Bible Hub will let you read the Bible online and/or search verses and topics as well. One cool thing about Bible Hub is that it includes a commentary section at the bottom of its pages.

It uses several different commentaries too, so you can get the opinion of several experts. Some of the commentary versions Bible Hub uses include:

However, for me personally, once I started reading the Bible on my own my relationship with God changed. I started learning about His character and His love for us firsthand.

That revelation allowed me to see past the flaws of humankind and focus on God’s unconditional love for all mankind.

If you’re looking for a sneak peak into the all-encompassing love of God, read the Bible. Or if you’re just looking for free or simple ways to have the Word with you always, utilize the list above.

  • The Gideons gave all of us freshman a pocket New Testament at the college I attended. YouVersion is the one Bible app I’ve used, mostly because most ministries have their study programs and daily devotionals through the app.

When it comes to online websites, my wife and I usually use Bible Gateway or BibleHub. I particularly like BibleHub because you can see multiple versions (KJV, NIV, ESV) all stacked on one screen. All of the suggestions on this page are excellent resources!
